Muffler / Exhaust CARS = Complete Auto Repair Service

Mufflers and Exhaust

1. What is a muffler?
A muffler is a device that is part of your vehicle’s exhaust system. The function of a muffler is to reduce the amount of noise that comes from your vehicle’s engine. The design of the muffler includes steel pipes with chambers inside that have been tuned like an instrument to reflect and cancel most of the noise coming from your engine.

2. How do I know if I need to repair or replace my muffler?
That is a good question. If your muffler is leaking, been bent or become rusted, chances are it is time for it to be replaced. We are happy to answer any questions or concerns you may have about the condition of your muffler.

3. What types of mufflers are there?
Some of our products include:
Flowmaster
DynoMax
MagnaFlow

4. What are the benefits of using a high performance muffler?
Not only do high performance mufflers reduce the amount of noise your car makes, they also help increase the efficiency, power output and the performance of your engine. High performance mufflers reduce the amount of back pressure in the exhaust system allowing the engine to work more efficiently. If you really want to give your vehicle a jump start, you should choose a muffler pipe that is larger in diameter and has better air intake like a “cold air intake” style.

5. How do I know which type of muffler will be best for me?
Most people don’t have a lot of knowledge about mufflers which is why most people feel a little confused and overwhelmed when choosing a muffler for their vehicle. That is where we come in. We have the knowledge and skills to best help you make your decision. We take the time to find out which type of muffler will more than meet your needs. We want our customers to know that we are here and eager to answer any question or concern you may have.

Dealer warranty FAQ

Posted by Jason on October 15, 2016 at 9:15 PM Comments comments (0)

DID YOU KNOW

F.A.Q. you don't know about:
You are not required to take your vehicle to the dealer in order to maintain your warranty.
A warranty cannot require the use of a specific brand of replacement parts offered by your selling dealer.
No matter the brand of vehicle you drive - foreign or domestic - we can help protect you and your vehicle's warranty.

1.   Do I have to use the manufacturer's original equipment parts to keep my warranty valid?
Automakers cannot specify which parts are used to complete your vehicle's service. You may use any brand-name quality parts to replace fan belts, hoses,
brakes, exhaust or chassis parts and more.

  2.  How does the quality of after market parts compare with original equipment parts?
Some are manufactured by the same supplier and may even be warranted longer than original equipment parts. Some aftermarket parts supplied meet or exceed manufacturers' specifications.

 3.  What do I have to do to keep my car or truck's warranty in effect?
Make sure your vehicle is serviced at the intervals specified in your owner's manual or warranty booklet and keep clear records of your vehicle's maintenance. Be sure to have the date, parts installed, vehicle identification number and mileage recorded on the invoice. Keep these receipts in a safe place. If you have a service log in your owner's manual or warranty booklet, use it.

  4. What parts should be replaced and at what intervals should these services be performed?
Check your owner's manual. It will give you all of the information you need regarding specific parts and service intervals. Make sure to read it thoroughly and note any exceptions or severe service notations. Warranties are there to protect the consumer, but you must follow the requirements.

 5.  What if my new car needs repairs other than regularly scheduled maintenance such as a brake job or other repairs?  Do I have to return to the dealer for these repairs? What if these repairs are covered under my warranty?

The choice of where to have your car serviced and repaired is yours. However, sometimes you will probably have to take the car back to the dealer for any repairs covered under warranty. Thoroughly check your warranty to be certain which repairs are covered.

 6. My car is a leased vehicle. Am I responsible for maintenance?

Even if you lease a vehicle you are responsible for all maintenance and repairs to keep the vehicle in good working order as outlined in the owner's manual.

Tires = Bellingham Auto Repair

Posted by Jason on October 1, 2016 at 3:00 AM Comments comments (0)

TIRE  CARS

Tire pressure is a measure of the amount of air in a vehicle's tires, in pounds per square inch. The required service involves checking the tires' pressure with a pressure gauge, at least monthly, if not more frequently. But then you knew that.

Why do I have to do this?     Having the proper tire pressure is a crucial safety issue. Next to the brakes, the tires are the most important safety devices on your car. Incorrect tire pressure will compromise cornering, braking and stability. And in the worst-case scenario, improper tire pressure can lead to tire failure — and a serious accident. Incorrect tire pressure also will affect your comfort, fuel economy and tire life.

What happens if I don't do this?     If tire pressure is too high, then less of the tire touches the ground. As a consequence, your car will bounce around on the road. And when your tires are bouncing instead of firmly planted on the road, traction suffers and so do your stopping distances. You'll also feel a decrease in ride comfort. (Hint: If you notice that every tie you own has coffee on it, check your tire pressure. It may be too high.)

C.A.R.S. Tire Pressure:

Most vehicles list tire pressure requirements on one of the door posts, most often the driver's.

If tire pressure is too low, then too much of the tire's surface area touches the ground, which increases friction between the road and the tire. As a result, not only will your tires wear prematurely, but they also could overheat. Overheating can lead to tread separation — and a nasty accident. One sign of low tire pressure is if your tires squeal when cornering.

You need to check your tire pressure even if your tires aren't leaking. Why? Because tire pressure also changes with the temperature outside. Tire pressure decreases by about 1 pound per square inch for every 10-degree drop in outside air temperature. So if you last had your tire pressure checked in July, when it was 80 degrees outside, and it's now January — and the temperature is minus 20 — your tires may be underinflated by 10 pounds, which is dangerous.

Tire Rotation:     We know that all tires rotate. But we're talking about another kind of rotation — rotating tires to different corners of the car and maybe even reversing the direction in which they turn.
Many tires are rotated front-to-back and side-to-side, but some tires are directional, which means they're only supposed to turn in one direction. They have to stay on the same side of the car. Directional tires often have arrows on the tire's sidewall to show you the direction in which they should turn.

If you're not sure which kind of tires you have, check with your mechanic.

Should I do this service when it's recommended?
The financial benefit of rotating tires is that you'll increase the useful life of the tire. Instead, you can ask your mechanic to rotate your tires when they're already off your car for another service, such as a brake repair. th
ey may do it for Less.

Headlights

Maybe you just need brighter lights so you can see the road better. Try the new H.I.D. (High Intensity Discharge) lights. The distinctive blue-white light of HID lamps stimulates the reflective paints in road markers and signs creating a safer driving environment. Additionally, the increased light output is designed to illuminate a wider area in front of the vehicle, improving visibility and safety, without disturbing the vision of oncoming drivers.

School Time CAR Safety Check

With summer ending and the start of school just around the corner, it is time to do a safety check on your CARS.

Tip #1: Check your tires for correct inflation. How much tread do you have? ( make sure you look at the inside tread also) . Rotate your tires.

Tip #2: Texting is a NO, NO ! Don’t drive distracted. About 80% of all auto related deaths and injuries are caused by distracted drivers every year. For all of you who are putting on makeup while driving, texting on cell phones, fiddling around with your GPS system, or eating drive-thru meals , your ability to focus on your primary task of driving is greatly diminished. Do all of this before or after you begin driving.

Talk on a hands-free cell phone system. Many new cars, like the KIA, have hands-free cell phone system, now. With all due respect, with all the technology we have for hand-free cell phone systems, it’s time for you to upgrade to one. For the safety of everyone.

Tip #3: Check your lights it will be getting dark earlier.

Tip #4: Fluid levels

Tip #5: Check your Batteries, they tend to out if they are older when it gets cold.

We are here to help you with your Auto Repair Needs.
