Air Filter Cleaning for you Automobile

Posted by D on August 2, 2016 at 1:40 AM

Air Filters

The air filter stops airborne contaminants from getting sucked into your car's engine. It's a paper filter that stops debris such as dust, leaves and wayward pelicans before they get inside the engine and do damage.

Should I do this service when it's recommended?

Why do I have to do this?
Because, eventually, your air filter will get plugged up.

What happens if I don't do this?
If your air filter gets too dirty or clogged, your engine won't be able to suck enough air into the combustion chambers. The engine will then run rich (i.e., too much gas and not enough air). When this happens, your car will lose power and run roughly. Your Check Engine light also may come on.

If you really neglect the air filter for a long time, your car may stop running altogether. While permanent damage is unlikely, it is possible. If an air filter were sufficiently dirty and damaged, it could allow harmful, abrasive contaminants into the combustion chamber.

Suspension What is it ? - Bellingham WA.

Posted by D on July 1, 2016 at 4:30 PM

Suspension is the term given to the system of springs, shock absorbers and linkages that connects a vehicle to its wheels. Suspension systems serve a dual purpose — contributing to the car's road holding  / handling and braking for good active safety and driving pleasure, and keeping vehicle occupants comfortable and reasonably well isolated from road noise, bumps, and vibrations, etc.

Three fundamental components of any suspension:

  • Coil springs - This is the most common type of spring and is, in essence, a heavy-duty torsion bar coiled around an axis. Coil springs compress and expand to absorb the motion of the wheels.
  • Leaf springs - This type of spring consists of several layers of metal (called "leaves") bound together to act as a single unit. Leaf springs were first used on horse-drawn carriages.  They are still used today on most trucks and heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Torsion bars ( also a spring)  - When the wheel hits a bump, vertical motion is transferred to the wishbone and then, through the levering action, to the torsion bar. The torsion bar then twists along its axis to provide the spring force.
  • Air springs - Air use the compressive qualities of air to absorb wheel vibrations.

  • Shock Absorber - controls unwanted spring motion through a process known as dampening. A shock absorber is basically an oil pump placed between the frame of the car and the wheels. When the car wheel encounters a bump in the road and causes the spring to coil and uncoil it will give you a smoother ride.
  •  Struts - provide structural support for the vehicle suspension.  Shocks and struts have a lot to do with the handling of your car.  They can be considered  a critical safety feature. Worn shocks and struts can allow excessive vehicle-weight transfer from side to side and front to back. This reduces the tire's  ability to grip the road, as well as handling and braking performance.

Anti-sway bars:

  • Sway Bars - give a moving automobile additional stability. Sway bar transfers movement to the other wheel. This creates a more level ride and reduces vehicle sway.

If you think your car is pulling to one side, hard to keep straight or you are experiencing  unusual tire wear. Then you should Stop by and let   C.A.R.S. = Complete Auto Repair Service help you out.

TRANSMISSION SERVICE Repairing or replacing your transmission can be one of the most expensive repairs you may have to make on your vehicle. Maintaining your transmission according to your vehicle manufacturer's recommendations, not only prolongs its life but it can prevent a costly repair or breakdown in the future.

To help maintain a safe and constant operating temperature, your vehicle uses transmission fluid to cool and lubricate the moving parts. The fluid reduces the amount of potentially damaging heat inside the transmission and helps increase the life of this important system.

Because some of the ingredients in the transmission fluid break down over time due to this heat, many vehicle manufacturers recommend the fluid be replaced at specified maintenance intervals. Check your manuel or check with us to find out when to replace your fluid.
