Radiator Repair - Utah - CARS,

RADIATOR REPAIR

Most people know the green stuff in your radiator keeps your engine from turning into a block of ice in the winter, but did you know that it also helps keep things cool in the summer? All too often people are driving around with just water in their radiator because they think they don't need the green stuff until it gets cold.

Radiator coolant actually raises the boiling point of the water, allowing it to carry more heat away from the engine, and that means cooler running. If you're running low, things can get steamy fast.

Luckily it only takes a second to check your coolant level. Most cars these days have an opaque coolant overflow tank right next to the radiator. It's white plastic, but you can see inside to see if there's enough juice to keep things safe. You'll also see markings on the side telling you the low and high levels to work with. Always check your coolant level when the car is cold.

If your levels are good, no need to go any further, enjoy the peace of mind. But if you're low, you'll need to top it off. Your engine takes a 50/50 mixture of coolant and water. In the old days, you had to make measurements yourself and test the mixture to get it right. But since we live in the age of convenience, you can now buy premixed coolant that's ready to pour. For a simple topping off, I recommend going this route. It might cost a buck more, but you're in for much less mess.

:)The best way to prevent over heating is doing regular maintenance on your vehicle.

If your engine is overheating shortly after you leave, or it heats up even on short trips, you should check the following possible causes and repair suggestions.

Possible Causes:

1.Engine coolant level may be very low.

The Fix: Refill coolant to proper level.

2. Engine's drive belts may be broken or slipping.

The Fix: Tighten or replace belts.

3. The electric cooling fan may not be coming on.

The Fix: Repair or replace cooling fan. Repair wiring. Replace cooling fan temp sensor.

4. The ignition timing may be set wrong.

The Fix: Adjust ignition timing.

5. There may be a vacuum leak.

The Fix: Check and replace vacuum lines as required.

6. The engine may have mechanical problems.

The Fix: Check compression to determine engine condition.

7. The engine's thermostat may be stuck closed.

The Fix: Replace thermostat.

8. There may be a leak in the cooling system.

The Fix: Repair leak and refill coolant. Cylinder head gasket(s) may be bad.

The Fix: Replace cylinder head gasket(s).

Tires = Price & Helper Utah Auto Repair

TIRE  CARS

Tire pressure is a measure of the amount of air in a vehicle's tires, in pounds per square inch. The required service involves checking the tires' pressure with a pressure gauge, at least monthly, if not more frequently. But then you knew that.

Why do I have to do this?     Having the proper tire pressure is a crucial safety issue. Next to the brakes, the tires are the most important safety devices on your car. Incorrect tire pressure will compromise cornering, braking and stability. And in the worst-case scenario, improper tire pressure can lead to tire failure — and a serious accident. Incorrect tire pressure also will affect your comfort, fuel economy and tire life.

What happens if I don't do this?     If tire pressure is too high, then less of the tire touches the ground. As a consequence, your car will bounce around on the road. And when your tires are bouncing instead of firmly planted on the road, traction suffers and so do your stopping distances. You'll also feel a decrease in ride comfort. (Hint: If you notice that every tie you own has coffee on it, check your tire pressure. It may be too high.)

C.A.R.S. Tire Pressure:

Most vehicles list tire pressure requirements on one of the door posts, most often the driver's.

If tire pressure is too low, then too much of the tire's surface area touches the ground, which increases friction between the road and the tire. As a result, not only will your tires wear prematurely, but they also could overheat. Overheating can lead to tread separation — and a nasty accident. One sign of low tire pressure is if your tires squeal when cornering.

You need to check your tire pressure even if your tires aren't leaking. Why? Because tire pressure also changes with the temperature outside. Tire pressure decreases by about 1 pound per square inch for every 10-degree drop in outside air temperature. So if you last had your tire pressure checked in July, when it was 80 degrees outside, and it's now January — and the temperature is minus 20 — your tires may be underinflated by 10 pounds, which is dangerous.

Tire Rotation:     We know that all tires rotate. But we're talking about another kind of rotation — rotating tires to different corners of the car and maybe even reversing the direction in which they turn.
Many tires are rotated front-to-back and side-to-side, but some tires are directional, which means they're only supposed to turn in one direction. They have to stay on the same side of the car. Directional tires often have arrows on the tire's sidewall to show you the direction in which they should turn.

If you're not sure which kind of tires you have, check with your mechanic.

Should I do this service when it's recommended?
The financial benefit of rotating tires is that you'll increase the useful life of the tire. Instead, you can ask your mechanic to rotate your tires when they're already off your car for another service, such as a brake repair. th
ey may do it for Less.

Dealer warranty FAQ

Posted by D on October 1, 2020 at 9:15 PM

Dealer Warranty - DID YOU KNOW

F.A.Q. you don't know about:
You are not required to take your vehicle to the dealer in order to maintain your warranty.
A warranty cannot require the use of a specific brand of replacement parts offered by your selling dealer.
No matter the brand of vehicle you drive - foreign or domestic - we can help protect you and your vehicle's warranty.

1.   Do I have to use the manufacturer's original equipment parts to keep my warranty valid?
Automakers cannot specify which parts are used to complete your vehicle's service. You may use any brand-name quality parts to replace fan belts, hoses,
brakes, exhaust or chassis parts and more.

  2.  How does the quality of after market parts compare with original equipment parts?
Some are manufactured by the same supplier and may even be warranted longer than original equipment (OE) parts. Some aftermarket (AM) parts supplied meet or exceed manufacturers' specifications.

 3.  What do I have to do to keep my car or truck's warranty in effect?
Make sure your vehicle is serviced at the intervals specified in your owner's manual or warranty booklet and keep clear records of your vehicle's maintenance. Be sure to have the date, parts installed, vehicle identification number and mileage recorded on the invoice. Keep these receipts in a safe place. If you have a service log in your owner's manual or warranty booklet, use it.

  4. What parts should be replaced and at what intervals should these services be performed?
Check your owner's manual. It will give you all of the information you need regarding specific parts and service intervals. Make sure to read it thoroughly and note any exceptions or severe service notations. Warranties are there to protect the consumer, but you must follow the requirements.

 5.  What if my new car needs repairs other than regularly scheduled maintenance such as a brake job or other repairs?  Do I have to return to the dealer for these repairs? What if these repairs are covered under my warranty?

The choice of where to have your car serviced and repaired is yours. However, sometimes you will probably have to take the car back to the dealer for any repairs covered under there warranty. Thoroughly check your warranty to be certain which repairs are covered.

 6. My car is a leased vehicle. Am I responsible for maintenance?

Even if you lease a vehicle you are responsible for all maintenance and repairs to keep the vehicle in good working order as outlined in the owner's manual.

Air Filter Cleaning for your Automobile

Posted by D on February 2, 2020 at 12:40 AM

Air Filters

The air filter stops airborne contaminants from getting sucked into your car's engine. It's a paper filter that stops debris such as dust, leaves and wayward pelicans before they get inside the engine and do damage.

Should I do this service when it's recommended?
Yes.

Why do I have to do this?
Because, eventually, your air filter will get plugged up.

What happens if I don't do this?
If your air filter gets too dirty or clogged, your engine won't be able to suck enough air into the combustion chambers. The engine will then run rich (i.e., too much gas and not enough air). When this happens, your car will lose power and run roughly. Your Check Engine light also may come on.

If you really neglect the air filter for a long time, your car may stop running altogether. While permanent damage is unlikely, it is possible. If an air filter were sufficiently dirty and damaged, it could allow harmful, abrasive contaminants into the combustion chamber.
