Winterize you CARS

Outsmart the ice and snow

1) DE-ICE LOCKS

Hand sanitizer gel  - The simple fix for a frozen - shut car lock.  Squirt hand sanitizer onto your key, pump the key in and out of the lock, then slowly - without forcing it - try turning the key.  Repeat until it opens.  This works because hand sanitizer is at least 60% alcohol.  Alcohol has a lower freezing point than water." according to Michael Calkins of AAA.  Since the alcohol strips away the oils, make sure you spray with some WD-40 after doing this to rubricate the lock and keep it from refreezing.  You can also heat the key with a match.

2) Keep windows clean

Shaving Cream - It has a lot of the same ingredients as commercial de-foggers. Just spray a layer on the inside of your windows and wipe it clean.

3) Prevent Frost

Cat Litter - Just leave it in your car overnight. The litter will absorb moisture (and odor!).  This also works good for traction in the snow under the tires!  Cardboard also works fro traction.

4)  All around good Item

Socks - Used for wiping windows,.  Put over shoes for traction when pushing car.  *Gloves, to keep kitty liter in to keep car dry.  *Keep your to put over feet make sure you keep them warm and dry if you get stuck.

tip: Don’*Don't leave open containers of liquid or water in your car overnight, those will evaporate and turn into fog or frost.
